Beaches & leeches

From the paradise beaches of Koh Kood in the west of thailand, we crossed the border overland near the city of trat into Cambodja.

First stop, Koh kong, First plan, go on a hike in the pristine jungle of the Koh Kong conservation corridor.

Three days and two night of hiking through the jungle. We’ve been in the jungle before but not with a small child and not in Cambodja. When the pick up stopped at the side of the road, we were told to get out and the guide took his machete to start cutting a path through the bush. We already knew this was going to be a little bit different then what we’ve had done before.

The guide also gave us an extra basket to carry, so we had to carry a 8kg basket, a 15 kg backpack and our 17 kg 3 year old daughter. She couldn’t walk because the junglefloor was overgrown and infested with leeches. After a brutal first day we hit kamp.

A blue plastic tarp with room to put up three hammocks underneath. The kampsite was located near a waterfall, a beautiful place. Emma played around as if she lived there.

The night brought rain and for Kim and Emma almost no sleep.

After a giant leech on her belly and a sting by a bee that morning Emma had no luck but stayed pretty cool.
For us as parents the question of what we were doing there was getting the upper hand. We had a long talk and stayed.

After the three days Kim told me she would be angry at me forever for putting us through that jungle.

I will be thankful forever because I know she only did it for me.
